Dominica

Officially "Commonwealth of ", Dominica is an island country of the Windwards island in the Lesser Antilles archipelago.

Independent republic since 1978, the island has a past of French first and British later colony.

Main activity is cultivation and export of bananas, the economy is not well developed resulting in low GDP, one of the lowest in the Caribbean.

The island natural environment is well preserved and in the recent years its rain forests, hot springs, waterfall and underwater life started to become attractive and the ecotourism has been growing while the absence of typical tropical beaches has kept traditional tourism low.

Unfortunately the island is often hit by hurricanes which in the latest years have been increasing in frequency and force causing massive damages to the island with loss of human lives and destruction of infrastructures and economy.

As positive consequence the Government is now determined to make Dominica the first "hurricanes proof" country with important changes on the island environmental policies to reduce the impact on climate and at the same time to increase the resilience.

Real estate are affordable but the infrastructures outside the capitals are not always fully developed.

As far as scuba diving, Dominica is considered one of the top worldwide location thanks to the abundant life and the underwater thermal springs.

Residence is facilitated by one of the cheapest investment citizenship program, at least for the time being.

In conclusion, Dominica has huge opportunities for a nice and sustainable ecotourism growth, great diving opportunities and in an affordable living condition.

On the minus side, the hurricanes season and the abundant rainfall should well considered.

Overall and interesting destination for the project but depending how the island and the climate will evolve in the next years. So not a primary choice but definitely one to be considered.
