We are half way!

Image
We are just back from Fuerteventura, where we spent two weeks exploring the island a little bit above and under the water. Actually, more under than above but that’s what divers do. It is the third island of the archipelago that we visited, out of the seven habitable ones, so indeed our project is halfway in terms of time and place. We loved Fuerteventura landscapes, the amount of free space and the general freedom vibe. Playa de Cofete, Fuerteventura. Compared to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura is bigger and more various. The lack of vegetation is the same, which we definitely like it, but in the central south part, the landscape changes and yellow sand takes over the lava rocks. There long sandy beaches are the paradise of windsurfers. We stayed in Caleta de Fuste because there is one of the best organized diving centers of the island and the underwater landscape is the most attractive with deep lava rock walls. The beach in Caleta is big, nicely equipped, quiet and the sea is alw...

The project is still alive!

Image
Our Calypso project is still alive, despite the three years of silence here on the blog. In fact, we never stopped thinking about it and we continues refining the ideas about how, when and where. We just didn't have much time to dedicate to the writing of it. On the other hand, we didn't make major progress in the execution but we definitely moved on with the planning. Our confidence on the financial sustainability increased, the time frame is still confirmed valid with an ultimate kick off fixed for not later than 2030 as initially planned.  We started this project in 2020 and now we are half way, perfectly on schedule and with the same spirit or even stronger. What changed, in those last 5 years, is the destination, where Calypso project will all happen. Caribbean, despite all the positive aspects and attractive, is  not our target anymore. An the main reason for that is the distance from Europe, where most likely our only daughter will live. We didn't fell good in not be...

The Plan B (just in case)

Image
Every serious project has a contingency plan to ensure irs successful completion also in case of unavoidable problems and since our Calypso is far too important, we need our own plan B.  Relocating to the Caribbean is not a simple task with a lot of aspects which has to fit together at the right time and sometime one single unexpected issue may be enough to stop the all plan. The geographical and cultural distance from Europe are positive aspects of the Caribbean but they may become problems in case of changes in our families or in the political and or economical status of countries. Similar porblems may prevent or make extremy difficult our relocation outside Europe. As divers we learned to accept the unexpected and therefore we are prepared to continue with the Calypso project witout changing its principles just the place, somwehere closer, an European destination. We looked at the map of Europe to find places which are warm through all the year, with great diving site, effortabl...
