Saint Kitts and Nevis

The official name of Saint Kitts and Nevis island country is Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis.

The territory consists of two main islands located in the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles.

With a population slightly over 50,000 people and a surface of 261 square kilometres, Saint Kitts and Nevis is the smallest sovereign stated in the Western hemisphere.

The islands were among the first to be colonized by Europeans and has been for long time a English and French settlement with a short period under Spain, until the 18th century when France renounced the control on the islands which became part of the British Kingdom.

Saint Kitts and Nevis gain the full independence in 1983 and today it is a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as head of State. Basseterre is the capital.

Both the islands are of volcanic origin and are covered by tropical rainforest, the costs are mostly flat which is where the vast majority of the population lives.

Since  1970s, tourism saw a constant growing trend till becoming today the dominant element of the islands economy.

Property market, despite the small size, looks interesting. At the present, there is a sufficient choice of properties compatible with our budget and in particular the offer of big houses which suit well for combining our living space with another one or two for rental.

The limited dimension of the islands implies that the amount of diving sites is not as high as other islands but there are enough and diverse spots from wrecks to walls, reefs and pinnacles with very abundant and various marine life. There are only four diving centers and this can be seen as a plus for divers interested in a quiet and relaxing diving environment not exploited by mass tourism but with nice underwater life to enjoy.

The climate is tropical with dry and wet season tropical rainfall, the amount of rain varies with altitude from low on the coast to high on the mountain tops. The islands are located outside the infamous hurricane belt and therefore they are not exposed to devastating winds as much as other Caribbean islands and can be considered safe.

Saint Kitts and Nevis has the oldest citizenship by investment program and it is rated as one of the best. At the present, cost wise the program is on the low side but it still requires a considerable amount. For a limited period, actually till the end at the end of 2022, the program is open also to investments on existing private properties which would be perfect for us.

Overall this looks as an interesting destination for our project especially if the citizenship program will open again to existing private properties and it will not become more expensive.

We will definitely keep an eye on Saint Kitts and Nevis and look how it will develop.
